It seems Giuliani wants to stop illegal immigrants at the border but resists "internal" enforcement--e.g., employer sanctions. I'm less gung ho about the need for "attrition" in the immigrant population than Krikorian is--but you do have to have "internal" enforcement to diminish the "jobs magnet," no? Unless, as Krikorian speculates regarding Giuliani, you only want control at the border as a political stunt to appease the 'yahoos' and pave the way for legalization. .... P.S.: Meanwhile, Krikorian realizes that Huckabee--who theoretically based his seemingly tough, "prevent amnesty" proposal on a Krikorian article--has no idea what his own plan is actually about. In debate, Huckabee endorsed a version of the Pence "touchback" scam, which would allow existing illegals to jump the queue and become legal in "days, maybe weeks." ....

In just a few short months, this has become his team, molded in his balding, fire-breathing image. If Olson comes back, whose team does it become then? When Lute goes off on a player for doing something wrong, will the player look to O'Neill for affirmation? What if Olson and O'Neill disagree on how to handle a game plan? With O'Neill the chosen successor, how much can Olson really come down on him? That's not to say it can't go well. O'Neill has always said the right things about this still being Olson's program, and that he's just warming his chair. And Olson isn't some egomaniac that's going to try and come in a "take back" the program.

In fact, I'd argue that K-State and USC are two of the hottest teams in the country over the past three weeks in large part because Beasley and Mayo have performed at high levels while involving their teammates more than at any time in the season. What's more, both players could be on the verge of a huge week with Kansas State aiming to take down the Jayhawks at home and USC hosting the Arizona schools in Pac-10 play. Even if they were thinking only about the NBA (and I don't think that's the case), wouldn't they have a big financial incentive to succeed in the marketing bonanza that is the NCAA tournament? I have a good idea for a parlor game. I was thinking the other day how unique it was that the Big 12 has two coaches who played for Big 12 teams yet coach different schools.

I voted that it was due to the MSM promoting him, as that probably was the biggest reason. I had also mentioned last night that crossover may have had a lot to do with it as well, though I made the crossover voters out to be somewhat malicious in there intent. I am beginning to back away from the malicious aspect of it somewhat as I am now thinking there may be a considerable number of "moderate" dems who do not like Broom Hilda and are not exactly thrilled with Obama's promise to surrender to Osama as soon as he gets elected.
