College football: OU's Bradford making impression sooner than later
NORMAN, Okla. — Sam Bradford hasn't appeared on too many lists as a Heisman Trophy candidate. But you better get used to the name. The Oklahoma redshirt freshman quarterback figures to contend for the award next season. Maybe even the next three. "He's just been phenomenal," OU coach Bob Stoops said. Just how phenomenal? Bradford leads the nation in passing efficiency — 70.2 percent. His 32 touchdowns are a Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) record for a freshman. And he's thrown just seven interceptions in 282 attempts in leading the No. 9 Sooners to a 10-2 record and a berth in the Big 12 championship game against No. 1 Missouri on Saturday at the Alamodome.
Hansbrough, Love, Beasley top POY candidates
I still can't get over the fact that Butler's senior point guard Mike Green was overlooked on the Wooden Midseason List. Green is the best player for the No. 12 team in the land and isn't just worthy of being included among the Top 30 players he's worthy of inclusion among the Top 10. .
Time running out, admits Megson
GARY Megson has admitted that that he was running out of time to sign a striker after failing in his ambitious bid to bring Eidur Gudjohnsen back to the Reebok. The Wanderers boss had hoped to prise the 29-year-old Iceland international away from Spanish giants Barcelona in a loan deal, but the player, pictured, insists he is staying in Spain, at least until the end of the season. That left Megson desperately scouring the markets for forward players who would go some way towards filling the void left by the sale of Nicolas Anelka to Chelsea. But, with the transfer window closing at midnight on Thursday, he admitted it was a tall order. "We were never going to get a straightforward replacement for Nic," he said. "But we are looking to get another forward into the football club.
Monday wild card
I try to keep up with the blog, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend to know what I'm talking about when it comes to Gozzer Ranch yacht wars or Marty Fortier. I'm doing this in addition to other work, so I'm not able to spend much time crusing around looking for things to post. And so - your help this week is crucial to keeping the blog flowing. Don't be shy about suggesting items to post, and please don't worry about insulting my intelligence or whatever by explaining at length why a particular post is noteworthy. This is your community, after all. Drop me a line at kenp@spokesman.com. Portrait of DFO courtesty of Brodh2o. .

Ever the anti-after-school special, Juno faces the news with eye-rolling determination. Before long, she's plucked a yuppie couple (Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman) from the "desperately seeking spawn" want ads. At first entirely uninterested in getting to know her baby's adoptive parents, Juno finds herself drawn to them, especially to the dad-to-be, a failed rocker turned jingle writer whose interest in the preggers teen is maybe not entirely wholesome. Whatever people aren't gonna go see Juno for its social commentary, or its take on teen pregnancy, really. This is one of those flicks with Heathers-like glib-clever-snarky dialogue that beg repeated viewings, memorization, and repetition. Besides a terrific script, the film also boasts a stellar cast, with Juno's parents played by Allison Janney and J.K.
