Market slide continues; TSX down 900 points in 3 days

It was another day of triple-digit losses on North American markets Thursday as investors showed few signs of wanting to wade back into equities.

The S&P/TSX composite index opened 85 points higher but changed direction within half an hour. By the close, the benchmark index had lost 279 points to 12,796 — its lowest level since the global turmoil in credit markets surfaced last August.

S&P/TSX composite index 3-month chart

That brings the total loss in the index since the close of Monday to more than 900 points. According to Bloomberg, it's the steepest three-day decline in five years.

Every sector lost ground on Thursday. But once again, energy and other resource stocks led the sell-off.

The TSX energy sub-index was down 2.8 per cent as crude oil futures fell 73 cents to $90.13 US a barrel.

Shia LaBeouf Loves Life In 'Disturbia'

Sure, former Disney Channel actor Shia LaBeouf isn't making the covers of teen magazines pushing a new bubblegum pop album, but it suits the former "Even Stevens" star just fine. In fact, the star of the new suspense thriller "Disturbia" couldn't think of a more disturbing scenario.

"I'm fortunate, especially after the Disney Channel thing. You can get locked into a 'High School Musical' route, put an album out -- it just really was never my thing," LaBeouf said in a recent @ The Movies interview. "I don't know if I really ever fit in there. I'm sort of the anomaly at that place. It's very one-note."

LaBeouf, whose starred in such films as "Holes," "I, Robot," "The Greatest Game Ever Played" and "Bobby" since his "Even Stevens" days, is hardly biting the hand that fed him from 1999 through 2003.

Canon U.S.A.'s New EOS Rebel XSi Places Superior Optics and ...

At the heart of the new EOS Rebel XSi is its newly designed 12.2 megapixel APS-C size Canon CMOS sensor. This new sensor employs large microlenses over each pixel to reduce noise and enhance sensitivity up to ISO 1600, which is ideal for high-quality images in low light. The APS-C size sensor retains a 1.6x focal length conversion factor compared to full-frame digital image sensors or 35mm film format cameras.

Another image quality enhancement is the upgrade of the Analog-to-Digital (A/D) conversion process to a 14-bit A/D processor. The inclusion of the 14-bit A/D process means the Rebel XSi camera records up to 16,384 colors per channel and allows the camera to produce images with finer and more accurate gradations of tones and colors. This is ideal for shooting outdoors where subtle hue changes in sky, water or foliage can really add to an image.

Clinton Allies May Dump Millions Into Anti-Obama Group

Those people don't want to go around and fight. It is the volunteers who are the culprits. And please don't tell me about economical necessities to do so. That is utter bullshit. If economical reasons are of concern, change your location and enroll in Your Community College. Because if You are willing to go to the Middle East and get fucked over every day, by people who have a 'right' to defend their country, might as well come back home and finish those guys in washington that send You there in the first place. So any argument about ‘college' or economic welfare is a stinking lie, that only the least intelligent people fall prey to. (Hopefully there will be a Class Action Law Suit against the US forces and their fucking recruiters.

We don't even know how many rapists and killing machines like the mercenaries of ‘black-filthy-water' are killed anyway.

• Hockey // Montreal police have issued an arrest warrant former hockey star Guy Lafleur, accused of giving contradictory evidence at his son's bail hearing. Lafleur's attorney said the former Montreal Canadiens great will surrender to police tomorrow. Mark Lafleur, 23, faces more than 20 criminal charges, including sexually assaulting a minor. A Quebec judge said the elder Lafleur testified in November that his son was abiding by a court-ordered curfew while he was staying with his parents.

Nexus: Cisco's Big Iron

Now you no longer need an in with the international Storm syndicate to outsource your phishing attacks. On InformationWeek, George Hulme reports on a DIY phishing service:

"The service automatically generates text for the phishing emails that target various Web mail and social networks, including Facebook, Hi5, Orkut, and others...

While this is more of a novelty, and reminiscent of the old-time virus construction kits from the early 1990s, it reveals how heavily social networks will be targeted going forward."

Hulme predicts a significant attack through the social networks. I still think it's coming from instant messaging.

Update: Man dead after Streatham shooting

Operation Trident officers say two or more vehicles were seen leaving the area.

DCI Steve Horsley said: "At this early stage, we are keeping an open mind as to the motive and we have no suspect descriptions or details of how many may have been involved.

"The venue of the shooting is very close to the ice rink but it was not open at the time and not involved in any way.

"There are two nightclubs in the vicinity of the ice rink and there could well have been people leaving them who may have seen something of the incident.

"It is a main thoroughfare in south London and it's possible there may have been people in the area - pedestrians, bus passengers or driving through, on their way to or from night work."

Streatham High Road was shut in both directions between Streatham railway station and Greyhound Lane causing traffic chaos during rush hour this morning.
