- Pass H.R. 2754 to require the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System to continue to make available to the public on a weekly basis information on the measure of the M3 monetary aggregate and its components. This will measure true inflation.
Sure beats the current 'plan' of giving everyone $800 to spend on flat-screen TVs or other bling where that money goes overseas anyway.

It is a shame that a building in the middle of downtown will sit empty instead of being used for retail.I've lived in Corvallis for over 40 years and it about kills me each time I drive to Albany to shop. I'd much rather spend money in my own community.The big push in the new development code is for bike/pedestrian-friendly development. You can't get much better location than the Whiteside Theater.I don't see how we are going to convince people to ride their bikes downtown unless we start letting some retail businesses in.Knitted hats, leather sandals, coffee, or a slice of pizza isn't much of a draw.Thank goodness for Internet shopping and UPS. This gives me time to type up the review. 11:45 a.m. File the piece and head to the office of Kevin McCollum, producer of "Rent," "Avenue Q" and "Drowsy Chaperone." You will hear more about "Drowsy Chaperone," which begins at five-day run at the Fox Theatre on Jan. 22, later. Right now, McCollum is excited about his next musical project "In the Heights," which he says is the first musical to treat the Latino population with the love and respect it deserves. McCollum played me sample songs from the show, which begins previews on Feb. 14. The musical — by Lin-Manuel Miranda with book by Quiara Hudes ("Eliot, A Soldier's Fugue") — has strong buzz, and unlike "Xanadu," "Mermaid" and "Young Frankenstein," the material is original - not based on a movie. 1 p.m.

Mike Turner, R-Ohio, who read an Associated Press story last May that revealed the custody fights facing an unknown number of the 140,000-plus single parents in uniform. “Service members were protected if a bank foreclosed on their house or went after their car ... but we had failed to protect their children," Turner said Wednesday. “It's unthinkable that our men and women in uniform, when they're deployed, would have the added stress of worrying about the custody of their children." Turner said he is hopeful the amended act will make judges think twice before using a military parent's deployment as the primary reason for permanent custody changes. Still, some military lawyers and advocates worry that custody problems will continue for these service members unless similar protections are written into state laws, which generally govern family courts.
